1/2 means one of two equal parts.
If each half gets cut into 2 smaller equal pieces, you now have 2/4.
The pieces look smaller, but the colored amount did not change.
You can do this again: 1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6. Same amount, different names.
Equivalent fractions land on the same point on the number line.
